Installation Issue

Any idea what you were doing at the time? It shouldn't try to open that file at all until it exists.

Is there a file called database.php in the xerte folder? Could you please remove it?

No there is no file called database.php

Only thing I have done is try to install it

OK I have done a completely fresh install extracting from a new Zip file onto server into httpdocs under a new directory and I have the identical error
As I have not had any issues installing other software on an indicatical server set up I can only assume you have an issue with your current zip file

I can only apologise that this has gone on so long and we've as yet been, as yet, unable to identify the problem. I have however just this minute just downloaded our current zip, done a fresh install and everything wen't through perfectly so that has been ruled out.

It would appear that something is stopping that particular file (and possibly other php stuff) running properly on your specific server and that is where we must investigate. database.php is written later in the process and the fact that it isn't there is fine just now.

Incidentally, looking at your install again www.s-c-s-ltd.co.uk/xerte/setup/ gives a 404 page not found - have you done your new install at a different location?

Can you advise of the new location?

Yes the new installation is at:

Ok, so go through the setup...

When you get to the error, you'll see the ? at the end of the URL...

Remove the ? and hit enter and you'll see that the page loads fine.

Click Next and you get the same error. Again remove the ? and hit enter and the page loads fine...

This suggests that your .htaccess file is not happy with the use of ? at the end of the URL. You will need to look at your server config as something has been configured to prevent querystring URLs which you will need throughout the rest of the site anyway, not just in the setup routine...
